What is WSU's VPN why would I use it?

Answer

A VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and is a secure method for placing a remote computer (your personal home computer) onto the WSU network. When using a VPN, all browser traffic is moving on a university IP address and not the IP address of your internet provider.  Many WSU services are firewalled to only work for users if they are on the University's network (ie: using a wired computer on campus) thus reaching these resources from off campus is impossible. This is where use of the university's VPN comes in. Using the VPN will put you directly in the university's IP domain so these 'on campus only' resources will work for you from a remote computer at a remote location.

Installing and using the VPN does require authentication (you must be affiliated with the University as an active student or employee).  The link below will provide additional information regarding the VPN and its uses.
